The Students @ Allendale Elementary School in Arvada

The students at Allendale Elementary School in Arvada made a $200 donation at First Bank for the Lao Buddhist Temple Fire Relief Fund on January 20, 2011.

Christopher, Cassandra Gist – Jacob, Kevin Sengdara helped their running club coach/teacher Mrs. Flannery set-up a fundraiser at their school and helped collect $200.

A hugh portion of the donation came from Abigail a running club fellow student.  She had donated $50 of her own money. The amount took the teacher by surprise. Mrs. Flannery made a call to Abigail’s mom to make sure that it was ok for her to do this. She explained that Abigail saved this money on her own and   during the holidays, she will donate it to a charitable organization. She felt bad about her friends were sadden by this tragedy and wanted to help them. True friendship at work and she has a great heart.

Students and teachers join in the fundraising effort and donated from their “piggy bank” from $.01 to  $50.

On behalf of Christopher, Cassandra,  Jacob, Kevin and the Laotian community we like to say Thank You to Allendale Elementary School.

Project Renew: Lao Buddhist Temple Benefit

On December 5th, 2011, the Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado in Westminster burnt down. A pillar of hope and strength for the Laotian community was destroyed in a matter of hours. All that remained were a few pieces of darkened debris and remnants of memories that had filed the temple with meaning and heart.

In an attempt to help those affected by this tragedy, Pioneer Breakers and Next Generation Voices have decided to throw a benefit showcase in order to raise donations to rebuild the temple.

The Benefit showcase is set for:

Date:        Saturday, February 18th, 2012
Time:       6:30 – 8:30 PM
Where:    Davis Auditorium at the University of Denver

The exhibition will include various cultural and hip-hop performances to illustrate how the Asian and hip-hop community will rise in solidarity for the Laotian community.  A suggested donation will be used as an entry fee.

Performances will include various Asian cultural dances and musical numbers as well as hip-hop choreography showcases and battles.
